Montenegro approves noise reduction plans for Podgorica‑Tuzi and Ribarevine‑Bijelo Polje highways

Montenegro’s government has adopted its first action plans to mitigate road noise on two major routes, Podgorica‑Tuzi (8.54 km) and Ribarevine‑Bijelo Polje (3.3 km). The plans, part of an EU‑funded IPA project and prepared by WINsoft, aim to protect residents’ health and improve quality of life by reducing exposure to traffic noise.

The Podgorica‑Tuzi corridor serves local, inter‑city, transit and international traffic and affects about 6,300 people living along the route, especially in the town of Tuzi where noise levels exceed limits at night. The Ribarevine‑Bijelo Polje segment also has significant local and transit importance. Measures include optimizing vehicle speeds, applying quieter road surfacing, additional local interventions at critical points, and continuous monitoring. The recommended “scenario S4” combines a quieter surface with speed optimisation and is slated for a five‑year implementation, with the possibility of earlier revision if traffic conditions change.
