Montenegro: Branka Marković criticizes former PM Abazović's economic record

Branka Marković, a Member of Parliament for the Europe Now Movement (PES), has criticized former Prime Minister Dritan Abazović for his handling of the economy during his tenure. Marković stated that Abazović failed to implement effective measures to mitigate record inflation, which reached 17 percent in late 2022, and did not increase minimum wages during his time in office.

Marković accused Abazović of shifting from a phase of spreading panic regarding the feasibility of increasing pensions to a populist stance after leaving the premiership. She contrasted his record with that of current Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, noting that the PES-led government has increased minimum pensions to 450 euros and implemented wage increases in both the public and private sectors through the 'Europe Now 2' program.

Furthermore, Marković claimed that Abazović's focus on the living standards of citizens only emerged after he moved into the opposition, alleging that his previous administration failed to close any EU negotiation chapters.
