Montenegro commemorates 230 years since the Battles of Martinići and Krusi
A formal academy was held in Podgorica to commemorate the 230th anniversary of the Battles of Martinići and Krusi. The event, organized by the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, honored the historical victory of Montenegro and the Brda region over Mahmut-paša Bušatlija under the leadership of Saint Peter of Cetinje.
Metropolitan Joanikije delivered a greeting emphasizing the spiritual importance of preserving heritage and faith. He noted that Saint Peter of Cetinje acted as a shepherd who unified divided tribes and clans before the military conflicts to ensure a collective defense.
Montenegrin Defense Minister Dragan Krapović also addressed the assembly, stating that Saint Peter’s greatness lay in his ability to reconcile and build the foundations of a state. Krapović highlighted that the victory was followed by the establishment of legal institutions, such as the Code of General Montenegrin and Brda in 1798. He concluded by noting that the modern role of the Montenegrin Army is centered on the preservation of peace.
