Montenegro considers total ban on plastic bags
Damjan Ćulafić, the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, has indicated that a total ban on plastic bags could be the next regulatory step for Montenegro. This potential measure follows the conclusion of the 'Nisam znao, nisam znala' (I didn't know, I didn't know) public awareness campaign, which was organized in collaboration with the Eco Fund.
According to Ćulafić, the amount of plastic bags in city landfills has already decreased by approximately 70 percent. The Ministry plans to monitor and control the results of existing restrictions to decide whether the next action will involve increasing fees for plastic bag use or implementing a complete ban.
Nemanja Peković, assistant director of the Environmental Protection Fund, noted that the awareness campaign was highly successful, garnering millions of views on social media and engaging tens of thousands of citizens.
