Montenegro debates proposed integrity checks for government officials
Montenegrin Vice President Momo Koprivica has defended a proposed constitutional amendment to introduce integrity checks for government members, dismissing claims that the move would undermine democracy or the separation of powers.
Koprivica argued that the absence of such a mechanism in the past contributed to systemic corruption. He stated that the checks would not be based on political or ideological views, countering criticisms from opposition leaders.
Opposition figures, including DPS leader Danijel Živković and DNP leader Milan Knežević, have expressed concerns. Živković claimed the proposal would abolish the separation of powers, while Knežević questioned whether the process could be used to eliminate political opponents.
