Montenegro President Milatović Reaffirms NATO Commitment

Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović met NATO Secretary‑General Mark Rutte, marking the alliance’s first senior visit since Montenegro joined in 2017. The leaders confirmed Montenegro’s full dedication to NATO, stressing the need to modernise the country’s armed forces and to meet alliance obligations.

Milatović also highlighted that Montenegro is finalising negotiations to join the European Union, targeting full membership by 2028, and underscored the shared goals of stability, rule of law, and security in the Western Balkans.

The meeting signals Montenegro’s intent to remain a reliable partner within the trans‑Atlantic framework and to bolster regional resilience against contemporary security challenges.
