Montenegro discusses strategies to retain youth talent

Montenegrin officials and European representatives met in Bijelo Polje to discuss strategies for retaining young talent amidst increasing European mobility. The panel, organized by the Ministry of European Affairs with EU support, focused on ensuring that youth migration serves as a choice for education and experience rather than a necessity for survival.

Maida Gorčević, Minister of European Affairs, emphasized the need to create conditions where returning to Montenegro and professional development are viable options. Marjan Šarec, a Member of the European Parliament, noted that experience gained abroad can drive domestic change if the state maintains strong ties with its diaspora.

Minister Damir Gutić highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive approach to demographic challenges, linking economic development, housing, and education. He announced that the Ministry has begun working on the Demographic Strategy of Montenegro for the period 2027–2037, which includes a focus on revitalizing the northern region of the country.
