Montenegro education experts highlight teacher-parent disconnect

During the Second Conference on Human Capital Development organized by the Council of Foreign Investors in Montenegro, experts highlighted a growing disconnect between teachers and parents. Participants noted that a lack of clarity regarding individual roles and excessive mutual expectations are hindering progress in the educational system.

Kristina Đukanović pointed out that while the state has attempted to increase preschool enrollment over the last 15 years, infrastructure and staffing shortages remain significant hurdles. She noted that while some regions have space, others lack the necessary educators to meet demand.

Saša Bakrač, a former teacher, described the relationship between educators and parents as a complex communication process. He emphasized that teachers often take on additional roles, such as psychologists and mentors, and suggested that the current educational system prioritizes correct answers over critical questioning and the effective use of digital technologies.
