Montenegro enforces temporary truck bans as roadworks cause traffic disruptions

The Auto‑Moto Union of Montenegro announced extensive road‑work projects on major routes—including the Tara bridge, regional roads R‑29, R‑30 and the Podgorica‑Mioska‑Kolašin corridor. Heavy‑vehicle traffic over 7.5 tonnes is prohibited on the Podgorica‑Mioska‑Kolašin segment from 15 June to 15 September, with bans in effect from 17:00‑24:00 on weekends and 19:00‑24:00 on weekdays. Additional alternating‑traffic arrangements and total closures are imposed on several highways during specific hourly windows.

Local residents and tourism operators report that many truck drivers ignore the temporary bans, creating safety hazards, damaging infrastructure and tarnishing the destination’s image during the peak tourist season. Complaints cite speeding, lane violations and instances of trucks forcing their way past stopped vehicles. Authorities have been urged to increase traffic controls and enforce penalties, but officials have not provided details on enforcement actions.
