Montenegro gains first seat on Mediterranean Games Executive Board
Maja Peković, Deputy General Secretary of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, has been elected to the Executive Board of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) for the 2026–2030 term. This marks the first time Montenegro will have a representative on the board, which comprises 26 national Olympic committees.
Peković has also been appointed as the ICMG focal point for safeguarding in sport for the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. In this role, she developed the first safeguarding framework in the history of the Games to regulate responsibilities and conduct during and after the event.
Concurrently, the Mediterranean Games have commenced in Taranto. During the opening ceremony, Montenegrin athletes Bojana Gojković and Miloš Milenković carried the national flag. Dušan Simonović, President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, noted the significance of the event for young athletes preparing for future competitions, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
