Montenegro hikes basic bread price; Serbia sees record potato and bean costs

In Montenegro, the retail price of a standard 500‑gram white loaf will rise from €0.85 to €0.90 in mid‑July, a 5.8% increase intended to cover higher flour transport costs, labor wages and a larger value‑added tax. Bakers say the adjustment is the first since June 2023 and is needed to maintain production.

Meanwhile, in Serbia’s Novi Pazar market, beans and potatoes have become the nation’s most expensive staple foods. A kilogram of beans now costs 500‑600 dinars, more than double the price in Belgrade, while potatoes range from 100‑150 dinars per kilogram, also higher than the capital’s 60 dinars. These price variations reflect broader inflation in agricultural products across the country.
