Montenegro economy accounting profession fiscal council tax administration investment growth

During the 21st International Congress of Accountants and Auditors in Ulcinj, Montenegrin officials and professionals discussed the nation's economic development and European integration path. Finance Minister Novica Vuković emphasized that high-quality financial reporting and independent auditing are essential for building trust in investments and institutions as the country moves toward EU membership.

Bratislav Pejaković, a member of the newly formed Fiscal Council, noted that the council has not yet received an official request to provide an opinion on the proposed ‘Euro model’. The council was established as a requirement for closing Chapter 17 regarding economic and monetary union.

Tax Administration Director Sava Laketić reported that revenue collection has exceeded both last year's figures and initial plans. He noted that while the number of controls has decreased, there has been an increase in fines and the temporary closure of 64 facilities to improve tax discipline. Additionally, the administration's new digital information system (IRMS) is now fully functional and being utilized by the business sector.
