Montenegro human rights protector rules Adria TV program denied Srebrenica genocide

Amer Smailović, head of the Bosniak Party parliamentary club, has welcomed a ruling by Montenegro’s Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms regarding a controversial television program. The ruling follows a complaint filed by the club against the broadcast of ‘Srebrenica – Anatomy of Deception’ on Adria TV.

The Protector’s opinion concluded that the program’s content exceeded the limits of freedom of expression, constituting an unacceptable relativization and denial of the judicially established Srebrenica genocide. The findings stated that such content violates domestic legal frameworks and international standards against discrimination and hate speech, while also undermining the dignity of the victims.

Following the initial complaint, the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services issued a penalty to Adria TV. Smailović has called for a decisive response from the prosecution, noting recent amendments to the Criminal Code that sanction severe hate speech and the glorification of war criminals.
