Montenegro initiates road speed limit review and internal integrity reforms
Montenegro's Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated the formation of a working group to re-evaluate speed limits and traffic signage on national roads. State Secretary Petar Koprivica stated that the review aims to determine if existing limits, some of which date back decades, remain appropriate for current road conditions, traffic intensity, and terrain. The process will involve technical experts and the University of Montenegro. Koprivica clarified that any adjustments to speed limits will not result in the retroactive cancellation of fines already issued under previous regulations.
Separately, Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić has proposed amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs. These proposals include making the unit responsible for monitoring work within the Ministry operationally independent from the Ministry and Police. Additionally, Mandić suggested implementing targeted and random integrity tests for Ministry employees, which could be conducted without prior notice to their respective organizational units to strengthen preventive measures.
