Montenegro inspection services report high volumes of fines and supervisions

Montenegrin inspection services have reported significant activity regarding waste management and sanitary standards. The Ecological Inspection conducted 1,024 supervisions related to waste during 2025 and the first eight months of 2026, identifying irregularities in 299 cases. This resulted in 208 solutions for rectification, 25 fines totaling 27,500 euros, and 11 requests for misdemeanor proceedings. Most inspections were concentrated in Podgorica, Nikšić, and Pljevlja.

Separately, the Sanitary Inspection reported imposing over 1 million euros in fines during the two-month summer tourist season of 2026. The Ministry of Health stated that 2,403 inspections were carried out, uncovering 1,727 irregularities. The total fines amounted to 1,049,990 euros, an increase compared to the same period in 2025, which saw 899,300 euros in fines. Officials noted these results were achieved despite having fewer staff members than in previous years.
