Montenegro introduces new Law on Chemicals to align with EU standards
The Economic Chamber of Montenegro and the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development organized a roundtable on October 19 to present the new Law on Chemicals. The initiative aims to inform the business sector about the key innovations and obligations arising from the law's application.
Milena Rmuš, secretary of the Coordination Committee for Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection at the Economic Chamber of Montenegro, emphasized the importance of preparing business entities for new regulatory requirements. Key areas of focus include chemical registration, information exchange throughout the supply chain, and the safe management of chemicals placed on the market. Particular attention is directed toward Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), which require identification, monitoring, and potential replacement with safer alternatives.
Lana Radunović, acting director general of the Directorate for Ecology, stated that the new legislation is a significant step toward improving the regulatory and institutional framework. The law aims to protect human health and the environment while further aligning Montenegrin legislation with European Union standards. Effective management will require a responsible approach from all participants in the supply chain, including producers, importers, distributors, and end-users.
