Montenegro launches 3‑million‑euro grant contest for research infrastructure

Montenegro’s Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation has opened a competition to award grants for the development, modernisation and open‑access use of research infrastructure. The programme totals €3 million, with €1.5 million earmarked for the first‑year funding of approved projects.

Grants range from €200,000 to €250,000 per project and may be funded up to 90 % by the ministry, requiring at least a 10 % co‑financing contribution from the applicant. The contest targets licensed research institutions based in Montenegro and aims to purchase new equipment, upgrade and digitise existing facilities, and build staff capacity for open‑access operations. Applications must be submitted by 13:00 on 10 September 2026.
