Montenegro launches first new patrol boat in France

The first of two patrol boats destined for the Montenegrin Navy, named ‘Petar I Njegoš’, was launched at the KERSHIP shipyard in Lorient, France. The vessel is part of a major defense procurement project initiated by a 2024 contract.

Following the launch, the ship will undergo several months of testing in France. According to Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić, the ‘Petar I Njegoš’ is expected to arrive in Montenegrin waters by early spring. The second vessel, ‘Petar II Njegoš’, is scheduled for delivery in the autumn of next year, though some reports suggest its launch may occur sooner.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Defense Minister Dragan Krapović, Chief of the General Staff Miodrag Vuksanović, and ambassadors from both Montenegro and France. Bečić described the acquisition as one of the largest defense projects in the country’s recent history, emphasizing the strengthening partnership between Montenegro and France.
