Montenegro launches new 125 L/s water filtration plant for coastal supply
A modular water‑filtering plant was inaugurated at the Bolje Sestre source on Montenegro's Adriatic coast. The facility can treat up to 125 litres of water per second, providing a significant boost to drinking‑water capacity during the peak tourist season.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Ćulafić and Regional Water Utility executive director Krsto Radović, alongside other government and local officials. The new installation addresses reduced natural inflow at the source and rising demand, creating a reserve capacity for the highest consumption periods, especially in August. The Montenegrin government funded roughly 80 % of the project, underscoring its commitment to modern, sustainable water infrastructure.
Ćulafić highlighted the plant as a key step toward ensuring safe water for citizens and businesses, while Radović noted that the upgraded system improves reliability and allows for future capacity expansion.
