Montenegro Minister advocates for state-owned airport management

Montenegrin Transport Minister Radoš Zečević has expressed his support for keeping airports under state ownership, advocating for modernization through domestic management. This stance follows a government proposal sent to Parliament in late July to annul a previous decision regarding airport concessions.

Zečević described airports as a vital national asset, suggesting that significant investment is needed to improve passenger comfort at Podgorica Airport. He noted that the level of investment required to meet modernization goals is substantial, potentially reaching tens of millions of euros.

Regarding infrastructure, the Minister addressed ongoing road and bridge works, such as the reconstruction of the Đurđevića Tara bridge, noting that certain projects cannot be postponed due to technical and environmental constraints. He also touched upon the need for railway modernization, expressing dissatisfaction with the current pace of progress despite available funding from European institutions and banks.
