Montenegro security concerns rise over alleged regional hybrid threats
Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has raised alarms regarding coordinated hybrid activities aimed at destabilizing the country. Spajić claims to possess operational information suggesting the involvement of officials from at least two neighboring countries in these efforts.
In response, President Jakov Milatović called for an urgent session of the Defence and Security Council. However, the meeting was postponed on the grounds that the National Security Council must convene first. Marko Lakić, Deputy Secretary General to the President, emphasized that these serious allegations require a timely and transparent institutional response to address public concerns regarding national stability.
While the specific countries involved were not named by the Prime Minister, regional speculation has linked the claims to Serbia and Albania. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has denied involvement, suggesting the Prime Minister may have been referring to Croatia. Geopolitical consultant Nikola Lunić noted that the decision to communicate these threats publicly before official verification could be interpreted as a sign of institutional crisis within the Montenegrin government.
