Montenegro officials discuss statistical cooperation and fiscal debt
Officials from the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT) and the Fiscal Council of Montenegro met to discuss the importance of reliable and timely official statistical data for fiscal analysis. The meeting focused on enhancing institutional cooperation and the potential for formalizing this relationship through a cooperation agreement.
The Fiscal Council members noted the significance of MONSTAT’s recent progress, specifically the temporary closing of Chapter 18 regarding Statistics, as a milestone for the country’s European integration process.
Separately, Member of Parliament Boris Mugoša highlighted significant fiscal challenges facing Montenegro, noting that the country must repay over three billion euros in principal and interest between 2027 and 2029. Mugoša called for professional dialogue regarding economic sustainability to balance debt obligations with the need for sustainable increases in wages and pensions.
