Montenegro officials meet with pensioners to discuss social welfare

Jelena Borovinić Bojović, Montenegro’s Vice President for Health System and Social Care, met with representatives from the Union of Associations of Pensioners of Montenegro to discuss the challenges facing the elderly population.

Representatives of the Union, including President Branko Vešović, highlighted several systemic issues, including difficulties in financing pensioner organizations and a lack of dedicated social spaces. They also noted the urgent need for better institutional support for pensioners with disabilities, improved housing solutions, and enhanced access to healthcare.

A critical concern raised was the rising cost of medication and treatment, which forces low-income pensioners to choose between medical care and basic living necessities. Additionally, limited access to specialist medical examinations was identified as a significant barrier for the elderly.

Borovinić Bojović emphasized that addressing these issues requires a multi-sectoral approach involving various ministries and institutions. The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish a continuous dialogue to tackle these specific areas of concern.
