Montenegro officials monitor Salafist recruitment and online radicalization

Montenegro's Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that while the immediate threat of terrorism remains low, local Salafist groups continue efforts to recruit new members. These groups often oppose secular laws, gender equality, and compulsory education, though they primarily operate without resorting to violent methods.

Petar Koprivica, the national coordinator for the National Inter-agency Operational Team, stated that security sectors are closely monitoring modern risks, particularly ‘lone actors’ and individuals radicalized through digital platforms. The authorities highlighted that online radicalization via social media, encrypted messaging, and gaming platforms presents a continuous security challenge that requires enhanced monitoring and early detection capabilities.
