Montenegro Ombudsman and Budva Mayor Condemn Threats Against Journalist Jelena Jovanović
The Ombudsman for Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro warned that the wave of online threats targeting investigative journalist Jelena Jovanović undermines public interest, press freedom and democratic values. The statement emphasized that protection of journalists is a state responsibility, calling out intimidation, hate speech and gender‑based harassment as detrimental to media independence.
Budva municipal president Nikola Jovanović also denounced the attacks on Jovanović, urging authorities to swiftly identify perpetrators and hold them accountable. He stressed that such behaviour jeopardises trust in public institutions and must be unequivocally condemned, reaffirming support for Jovanović and other professionals serving the public interest.
