Srđan Perić secures backing from multiple parties for Podgorica city council presidency

The European Progress Party (SEP) announced it will support Srđan Perić’s candidacy for president of the Podgorica City Assembly, but only if a transparent recovery plan is adopted. The party condemned alleged mismanagement of city assets and warned against a “forced administration”.

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) formally signed its support for Perić, noting that 30 votes are required for his election. Other opposition groups, including the Preokret movement, accused the ruling coalition of steering the city toward a forced administration and called for a model that strengthens transparency, control and functional city services. Preokret offered a proposal to block a €165 million budget campaign and gave the authorities a seven‑day deadline to appoint the assembly speaker. The movement emphasized that it seeks no governing role, only to prevent misuse of city funds and to restore functional governance in Podgorica.
