Montenegro Parliament Advances Environmental and EU Alignment Legislation

The Montenegrin Parliament held a full day of committee sessions covering tourism, agriculture, ecology, spatial planning, health, labor, education, foreign affairs and economic matters. Among the agenda items were proposals to amend the Law on Liability for Environmental Damage and a new Law on Chemicals, both presented by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development. The amendments aim to improve prevention and remediation of environmental harm, strengthen chemical management, and align Montenegro’s legislation with European Union standards under Chapter 27 of the accession process.

The environmental committee’s support for these bills marks a key step in Montenegro’s ongoing EU integration efforts, signalling tighter regulatory standards for natural resource protection and public health.
