Montenegro Passes New Chemical Management Law

Montenegro's parliament approved a Chemical Law aimed at strengthening the legal and institutional framework for safe management of chemicals, aligning national regulations with European Union standards. Minister Damjan Ćulafić said the law introduces modern information and monitoring solutions, including a “digital label” for packaging to improve transparency and public access to data. The legislation also defines classification, labeling, packaging, production, use, testing, market placement, export and import of chemical substances and mixtures, and establishes a dedicated body within the Clinical Center of Montenegro to provide emergency medical assistance in poisoning cases.

The adoption is presented as a step toward Montenegro’s EU accession process, enhancing protection of human health and the environment.
