Montenegro Pension Fund deficit falls to 253 million euros

The Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIO) reported a deficit of 253 million euros for the first seven months of the year. This figure represents a 6.35 percent decrease compared to the 270.2 million euro deficit recorded during the same period in 2025.

Total revenues for the fund reached 482.26 million euros, a 4.59 percent increase over the previous year. Specifically, revenue from contributions rose to 229.22 million euros, marking a 20.07 percent increase compared to the 190.9 million euros earned in the same period in 2025.

Fund officials noted that while legislative changes in October 2024 reduced the total contribution rate from 20.5 percent to 10 percent, the increase in revenue is attributed to positive macroeconomic factors. These include increased economic activity, a rise in the number of employees (up 4.9 percent), a strong tourism season, and higher gross salaries.
