Montenegro PM Milojko Spajić denies EU migrant centre negotiations

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić said Montenegro has not entered talks with the European Union to host migrant reception and repatriation centres and that the government would reject any such proposal. He emphasized that the country remains a reliable EU partner on border protection and migration management, but any decision will be made transparently and in the interests of Montenegrin citizens.

Spajić’s comments responded to media reports that Italy had placed Montenegro on a preliminary list of potential third‑country sites for new EU migrant centres, a claim he described as unfounded and noted that discussions were only at a speculative stage.
