Montenegro Premier Milojko Spajić Blames Opposition for Fuel‑Price Panic After Tax Cut

Premier Milojko Spajić and officials of his Europe Now! (PES) party accused opposition lawmakers of creating panic after the Ministry of Energy and Mining announced higher fuel prices. The announcement prompted many drivers to fill their tanks on Monday morning. Later that evening the government announced a reduction of excise taxes – 10 % on gasoline and 30 % on diesel – and lowered diesel prices by two cents per litre while keeping gasoline roughly unchanged. Spajić and PES members said opposition members had spread alarmist messages on social media, claiming the opposition deliberately incited the rush.

Opposition figures retorted that they merely warned the public about the planned price increase and that the government’s delayed response caused the panic. The episode highlights a political dispute over responsibility for the short‑term price shock and the coordination of fuel‑price policy.
