Montenegro Prosecutors Boost Organized Crime Indictments by Over 200%

In 2025 Montenegro's Special State Prosecutor's Office filed 22 indictments against 145 individuals for organized crime, a rise of 202 % compared with 2024. The office also lodged criminal complaints against 277 people, a 40 % increase, and initiated 69 financial investigations involving 190 natural persons and 31 legal entities. Courts handled 124 organized‑crime cases involving 847 defendants, of whom 53 were legal entities; 24 cases were concluded, 18 judgments issued and 52 convictions delivered. Temporary asset seizures covered more than 1.8 million m² of property, over 100 vehicles, 34 luxury watches and large sums of money in various currencies. The report attributes the surge to broader case definitions and more coordinated investigations, noting improved efficiency in prosecuting organized‑crime activities.
