Montenegro records nearly 9,000 coronary syndrome hospitalizations

The Institute of Public Health of Montenegro (IJZCG) reported that the Acute Coronary Syndrome Register recorded nearly 9,000 hospitalizations in Montenegro between 2013 and 2023. The announcement was made in observance of World Heart Day, an initiative aimed at raising awareness regarding the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Analysis of the data indicates that several modifiable risk factors significantly influence these cases, most notably obesity, physical inactivity, and high blood pressure. Additionally, many patients presented with lipid disorders, diabetes, and frequent tobacco use. While the majority of those affected are between 55 and 79 years old, cardiovascular diseases continue to impact younger populations.

On a global scale, the World Heart Federation notes that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death, claiming more than 20.5 million lives annually, including a significant number of premature deaths in individuals under the age of 70.
