Montenegro Red Cross celebrates 150 years of humanitarian work

The Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), in collaboration with the Red Cross of Montenegro, organized a symposium in Podgorica to mark the 150th anniversary of the organization's founding. As the first Red Cross organization in the Balkans and one of the oldest in the world, the institution's history was examined through various historical periods.

Historians discussed the organization's origins in 1875 and its role during significant historical shifts, including the World Wars and the period of socialist Yugoslavia. Key milestones highlighted included the organization's adherence to the Geneva Convention, its response to international humanitarian missions, and its critical role in providing aid following the devastating 1979 earthquake.
