Montenegro reviews road speed limits following professional analysis

Montenegrin authorities are conducting a professional analysis to review existing speed limits on national roads. The initiative involves a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the University of Montenegro, the Traffic Administration, and the Secretariat for Transport.

Petar Koprivica, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that the goal is not simply to increase speeds, but to ensure that limits are “real, functional and aligned with the conditions on specific road sections.” He noted that the Road Safety Law, which took effect on August 7, is already showing visible results in improving citizen safety.

Miroslav Mašić, acting director of the Directorate for State Roads, highlighted the need to analyze vertical and horizontal signaling to improve safety. Recent safety improvements have been completed on the Lipci–Čevo and Kolašin–Mateševo routes, with ongoing work on the Cetinje–Budva section.
