Traffic safety regulations and school safety campaigns in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, traffic laws strictly prohibit children under 12 from sitting in the front passenger seat. Violators face fines ranging from 400 to 1,000 KM. An exception exists for children under two years old, provided they are in a rear-facing safety seat with the passenger airbag deactivated or absent. This differs from regulations in neighboring Croatia, where height—specifically a minimum of 150 cm—is the determining factor rather than age.

Additionally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton has launched the ‘Školarac’ campaign to increase safety for students returning to school. Police will increase surveillance near schools during arrival and dismissal times, focusing on vehicle speed, traffic signals, and pedestrian crossings to protect young students.
