Montenegro roadworks trigger extensive traffic regime changes
The Auto‑Moto Union of Montenegro has announced extensive traffic restrictions on several routes due to ongoing reconstruction projects. Heavy‑truck traffic (over 3.5 t) is fully prohibited on the Đurdevića Tara bridge section of the M‑6 highway between Pljevlja and Žabljak from 4 March 2026 until the works are completed. Passenger vehicles and buses will operate on alternating lanes, with total shutdowns for trucks during 06:00‑08:00, 10:00‑12:00 and 14:00‑20:00 between 1 June and 31 July 2026.
Additional closures affect regional roads: R‑29 Bar–Kamenički most–Krute, R‑17 Čevo–Rijani, R‑30 Petnjica, and R‑3 Pljevlja–Dajevica Han. These sections will see alternating traffic or periodic bans not exceeding 60 minutes on weekdays, and longer 08:00‑14:00 closures on R‑17 from 16 December 2025 onward. Drivers are urged to observe the changed patterns, avoid travel during peak restriction windows, and use electronic toll‑collection where possible.
The measures aim to ensure safety and maintain flow while the infrastructure upgrades, including bridge reinforcement and road‑widening, progress throughout 2025‑2026.
