Montenegro road works trigger widespread traffic restrictions
Montenegro has announced extensive traffic changes as a series of road construction projects proceed. Work on the reconstruction of the Đurdevića Tara bridge on the M‑6 highway between Pljevlja and Žabljak will require a total ban on heavy trucks over 3.5 tonnes from 4 March 2026 until the works are completed, and passenger traffic will shift to alternating flow with additional closures between 06:00‑08:00, 10:00‑12:00 and 14:00‑20:00 from 1 June to 31 July 2026.
Similar restrictions are planned on regional routes R‑29, R‑17, R‑30, R‑3 and on sections of the M‑4 and M‑1 highways, with scheduled full or partial shutdowns during specified daily time windows throughout 2025‑2026. Drivers are advised to take frequent breaks, obey temporary signage and avoid travel during the hottest part of the day. The agency overseeing the works emphasized the need for careful driving and compliance with the temporary traffic regime.
