Montenegro security concerns rise over alleged hybrid activities

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has raised concerns regarding coordinated hybrid activities aimed at destabilizing the country, particularly as it approaches the closing of new negotiation chapters with the European Union.

Todor Goranović, the Prime Minister’s security advisor, clarified that the recent public statements were intended as a warning to potential actors rather than a direct accusation against any specific state. He emphasized that the goal was to communicate Montenegro’s firm commitment to EU membership. While Goranović did not confirm or deny the existence of specific operational data, he cited the National Security Agency to affirm that such activities are occurring.

The claims have sparked intense political debate. Opposition MP Nikola Zirojević criticized the government, noting that the National Security Council has not met in over a year and accusing Serbia of engaging in hybrid actions against Montenegro. Conversely, SNP MP Slađana Kaluđerović argued that the domestic opposition is the true source of destabilization, aiming to undermine the current government and its European path.
