Montenegro seeks protection from foreign interference in EU bid
Montenegrin Foreign Minister Maida Gorčević attended a working breakfast for EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg to discuss hybrid threats and their impact on the enlargement process. The meeting was organized by the European Centre for Resilience, the Irish Presidency of the EU, the European Commission, and the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Gorčević emphasized the necessity of protecting Montenegro’s negotiation process from foreign interference, disinformation, and destabilization attempts as the country nears EU membership. She noted that Montenegro has 21 temporarily closed negotiation chapters and is in a decisive phase of its accession.
To combat these challenges, Montenegro has established a national framework for coordinating protection against Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI). This framework integrates institutions across politics, security, law enforcement, cybersecurity, and media to strengthen cooperation with the EEAS and other EU partners.
