Montenegro to compensate Lora concentration camp victims

Budimir Aleksić, Montenegro’s Vice President for Education, Science, and Relations with Religious Communities, has announced plans for the state to provide compensation to victims of the Lora concentration camp in Split, Croatia.

Speaking on Radio-televizija Crne Gore, Aleksić stated that the government intends to initiate these payments and aims to complete the process by the end of the year. He described the move as a matter of “elementary humanity” and a societal priority. He noted that while Croatia could logically be responsible for the payments, Montenegro chooses to compensate its own citizens to maintain good bilateral relations and support its European integration path.

Aleksić also addressed political tensions in the parliament, criticizing the opposition for their stance on historical figures and war criminals, arguing that they attempt to prevent a fact-based dialogue regarding the country's past.
