Montenegro to hold EU accession intergovernmental conference on July 14 during Ireland's Council presidency
Montenegro's Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević, announced that an intergovernmental conference with the European Union is scheduled for 14 July. The meeting will take place immediately after Ireland assumes the six‑month EU Council presidency on 1 July, a period expected to strengthen support for concluding Montenegro's accession negotiations.
Both Montenegrin and Irish officials emphasized that the conference aims to close the remaining negotiation chapters and move Montenegro toward full EU membership by the end of 2028. Irish representatives highlighted the importance of reforms in the rule of law, democracy and EU values, reaffirming Ireland's commitment to backing candidate countries during its presidency.
