Montenegro urged to fast‑track reconstruction of Tivat and Podgorica airports

Dragan Purko Ivančević, a member of the tourism and hospitality committee of the Montenegro Chamber of Commerce, warned that the country can no longer postpone the reconstruction and modernization of Tivat and Podgorica airports. He said the current poor condition threatens Montenegro’s international reputation, the competitiveness of its tourism sector and overall economic development.

Ivančević cited severe congestion at Tivat airport on 24 July, when flights were temporarily redirected, as evidence that existing capacity no longer meets growing passenger numbers. He called on the government to present a clear, achievable reconstruction plan with specific deadlines, financing sources and accountable implementers, stressing that inadequate airport infrastructure is a major obstacle for a tourism‑dependent economy.
