Montenegro Vice‑PM Koprivica meets heads of the European Court for Human Rights

Vice‑President of the Montenegrin Government for Political System, Justice and Anti‑corruption, Momo Koprivica, held talks in Strasbourg with President of the European Court for Human Rights Matija Gijor and Vice‑President Professor Ivan Jelić. The discussion focused on Montenegro’s commitment to fully implement the Court’s judgments, to support the Court’s work and to strengthen the rule of law in line with the European Convention on Human Rights.

Koprivica emphasised that the country sees Court decisions as tools for advancing legal reforms rather than punishments, and highlighted recent measures to improve restitution procedures. Both sides expressed optimism about deepening cooperation during Montenegro’s upcoming chairmanship of the Council of Europe Ministers of Justice Committee, and announced plans for two international conferences on gender‑based violence and femicide.

The meeting underscored Montenegro’s ambition to meet EU accession criteria by aligning its judicial system with European standards.
