Montenegro's ANB chief Ivica Janović files criminal complaint against investigative journalists

Director Ivica Janović of Montenegro's Agency for National Security (ANB) lodged criminal complaints against Andrea Perišić and Đurđe Radulović, reporters for the Centre for Investigative Journalism of Montenegro (CIN‑CG). The complaints stem from their article investigating ANB's hiring practices and alleged employment of personnel who may pose security risks, and allege a breach of laws on secret data disclosure that carry up to eight years in prison.

A coalition of media organisations—including SafeJournalists, the Professional Journalists' Association of Montenegro, the Institute for Media of Montenegro, and the Media Union—condemned the action as intimidation, a threat to press freedom and a violation of source‑protection standards. They urged the prosecutor to dismiss the case, warning that such criminalisation undermines democratic accountability and Montenegro's progress toward EU accession. "This sends a dangerous message to journalists," said Radomir Kračković of the Media Union of Montenegro.
