Montenegro's ASK receives North Macedonian data for official asset checks

The Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) in Montenegro has received requested information from North Macedonian institutions regarding the asset verification of five Montenegrin public officials. This marks the first practical application of an international agreement signed in March 2021 in Belgrade, which facilitates the exchange of data for the purpose of verifying asset reports.

The agreement was signed by justice ministers from Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia as part of the South East Europe Regional Programme to strengthen the capacity of anti-corruption authorities. It has also been ratified by Moldova. The ASK submitted its first request under this agreement to North Macedonia in December 2025, and the requested data was received in the second quarter of 2026.

According to the ASK, the documentation is currently being processed. The agency stated it cannot provide specific details regarding the identities of the officials or the findings of the investigation to protect the integrity of the proceedings. The agency plans to continue using this mechanism for in-depth reviews of income and assets through the end of the year.
