Vatican hosts leaders from Montenegro and Slovenia for diplomatic meetings

Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović conducted an official visit to the Holy See, meeting with Pope Leo XIV. The visit marks significant diplomatic milestones, including the 140th anniversary of the 1886 Concordat between the Principality of Montenegro and the Holy See, and 20 years of modern diplomatic relations.

During the audience, Milatović presented several symbolic gifts to the Pope, including a reproduction of the first page of the 1886 Concordat, a handmade filigree work inspired by traditional Boka lace, and a custom tennis racket featuring Montenegrin state symbols, acknowledging the Pope's interest in the sport. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, maintaining peace, and mutual respect.

Separately, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša conducted a working visit to the Vatican to meet with Pope Leo XIV and the Secretary of State. Following his meeting at the Holy See, Janša traveled to Rome for talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Their discussions centered on bilateral relations and the status of the Slovenian national community in Italy.
