Đurđevića Tara Bridge Closure Threatens Montenegrin Rafting Tourism

The Đurđevića Tara bridge on the M‑6 road will be completely closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic starting 10 August, with the shutdown expected to last roughly two and a half months until the end of October. The closure is part of a reconstruction project that will also impose alternating traffic for lighter vehicles during the works.

Local entrepreneurs, led by businessman Đorđe Kljajević, warn that the bridge is the main access to the popular rafting site Žugića Luka. They estimate a 60 % drop in tourism revenue and say they may need to lay off about 50 % of their staff if the suspension proceeds as planned. The business community has appealed to the Montenegrin Ministry of Transport and the government to postpone the start of construction until at least 1 September in order to protect the peak tourist season.
