Montepulciano to commemorate Piero Calamandrei 70 years after his death

Montepulciano will host a recital titled ‘Se potessi… Calamandrei!’ on September 27 to mark the 70th anniversary of the death of jurist, writer, and politician Piero Calamandrei. The event, held at the Sala Ex Macelli, is organized by the Municipality of Montepulciano and the Piero Calamandrei Historical Archive and Library.

Curated by singer-songwriter and historian Letizia Fuochi, with participation from Frank Cusumano, the musical narration explores themes of justice, civil responsibility, and respect for institutions through Calamandrei’s writings, poetry, and speeches. The evening will also feature the presentation of a podcast titled ‘L’uomo, la toga, la libertà,’ produced by students from the Istituto G. Pascoli.

Silvia Calamandrei, President of the Historical Archive, will participate in the event. Following the recital, Fuochi and Silvia Calamandrei are scheduled to meet with local school classes on September 28 to discuss the legacy of the constitutionalist.
