Montería announces major urban renovation and resettlement projects

The Mayor of Montería, Hugo Kerguelén García, has announced several major urban development initiatives aimed at transforming the city's infrastructure and social landscape.

A project to renovate the Mercado de los 4 Patios has been submitted to the National Tourism Fund (Fontur). The renovation is estimated to cost $29 billion pesos, with $16 billion provided by Fontur and $13 billion by the municipality. The project seeks to recover the traditional market's infrastructure and integrate it into the city's tourist and cultural sectors. This is part of a broader strategy that includes a planned reurbanization of Calle 36 by 2027, which will prioritize pedestrian circulation and move electrical networks underground.

Additionally, the city is working with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on an urban resettlement project to benefit families in Playa Brígida. This initiative, part of the 'Biodiverciudad' vision, will provide new housing through the Renacer del Sinú and Villa del Sinú projects. The plan also includes expanding the Ronda del Sinú to create more green spaces and public areas along the river. The IDB noted that this is the first urban project developed under its specific cities program.
